Alumni Relays '24

The annual Alumni Relays event was held this past September 28 prior to the kickoff of the SC vs Wisconsin fooltball game. Roughly 80 former Trojan swimmers and divers were in attendance dating back to 1975.

The relays were held in "The Dungeon" giving the older swimmers a clear "home field" advantage.

During the football game, Mike Nyeholt recieved the "Hero of the Game" award honoring his significant contribution to athletes who have been injured so that they may continue education with scholarships provided by the Swim With Mike foundation. The ceremony can be view by clicking this link.

Alumni women finish Strong

Christie Ciraulo(75) was cheered by all as she finished last two legs of the women’s free relay. The relay consisted to Kaia Hedlund (77) lead off, Kaurie Edwards Ayoob (79) second leg with Christie anchoring the final two legs.

Old Dude Relay

The over 60, Men’s relay was well represented by Ken Krueger (68) in backstroke with a fine start from the ladder position and a capable modern backstroke turn. John Naber (77) swam a very respectable breaststroke leg with a “modern day” dolphin kick in his stroke we all have knees that don’t make that motion any more. Neal Macready (81) swam an amazing butterfly leg showing his excellent physical condition and training. Mike McDermitt (87) finished with a strong freestyle leg.

This video by Sam Stein is a different perspective of the Old dude relay showing the relative position of the teams. Yes, the other classes were finished before Mike swam the last leg.
